Neighbours have identified a woman who died in a violent altercation in Brampton on Tuesday, as Peel Regional Police arrested and charged a man in connection with her death.
Authorities responded to reports of a fight near a home in the Centre Street and Queen Street East area at approximately 12:30 a.m.
Officers discovered three adult victims. A 39-year-old man and woman from Brampton were treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while a 78-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have not released any further details about the victim, but neighbours interviewed by CityNews identified her as June Curtis.
“Everybody around here knew her,” said one neighbour. “Nicest lady there is. Nicest lady… She would give you the shirt off her back. Would give you anything.”

Suspect in custody was arrested last week on separate charges: court documents
Investigators have charged 64-year-old Wilfred Kent with second-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault. He was a resident of the home where the incidents took place.
Neighbours alleged a hatchet was used during the attack, which reportedly occurred on the home’s front porch. Police have not commented on these details.
According to court documents obtained by CityNews, Kent was arrested last week on charges that include uttering death threats and animal cruelty offences. Neighbours believe the altercation and fatal attack on Curtis may be related to the dog abuse case.
“[Authorities] took the dog,” said one neighbour. “Oh boy, was he upset.”
Authorities are urging anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident to contact Peel Regional Police.
