The Special Investigations Unit is investigating the death of a boater after he was shot by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) on Turkey Point Tuesday afternoon.

SIU say at around 2 p.m., police attempted to stop a personal watercraft that got their attention. The man entered the MacDonald Turkey Point Marina and fled on foot into some bushes adjacent to the marina.

Officers then set up a perimeter. There was an interaction between the police and the man at which point one officer discharged his firearm and another officer discharged an Anti-Riot Weapon ENField.

The 22-year-old man was struck by both firearms and was pronounced dead on the scene.

No further details about the man have been released.
