A group of at least seven people is accused of using artificial intelligence tools, including smart glasses, in what police describe as an organized retail fraud operation.
According to investigators, a group of seven individuals targeted multiple retail locations across the Greater Toronto Area between September 2025 and February 2026.
Police said the suspects used distraction techniques and digital devices to capture employee login credentials and passwords.
“The captured credentials were then used to access store systems and fraudulently load funds onto gift cards through self-checkout terminals,” Toronto police wrote in a press release issued Friday.
“The activity resulted in significant financial losses to multiple retail locations,” police added. “Officers were able to identify and clear 112 occurrences connected to this scheme.”
Police have arrested five individuals in connection with the case: Lord Jeffrey Gelera, Ronald Herrera Reyes, Paul Herron Paje, Vince Villaluz and Nixcel Gamayon have all been charged with fraud over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime and use of a computer system with intent to commit an offence.
Detectives are now searching for two additional suspects: 49-year-old Danibros Flores is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant, as well as 41-year-old Remfrance Jusi.
Investigators believe there may be more victims and encourage anyone with information to contact police.
