The thunderstorms and downpours that wrapped up the month of March led to some new weather records in Waterloo Region.
The E.D. Soulis Memorial weather station at the University of Waterloo is out with its monthly weather recap.
March 2026 will go down as the wettest March in 15 years, with 128.2 mm of rain.
Just over a third of that came pouring down on Tuesday, March 31 alone, with 35 mm recorded.
The average amount of rainfall for March is 65.8 mm.
“This was the wettest March since 2011 and the sixth wettest in the history of records in the region that go back to 1914,” read the weather report.
When it comes to precipitation in the form of snowfall, only 13.5 cm of snow fell in March, about half of what we typically see in Waterloo Region.
It brings the total snowfall for the season to just under 240 cm — still very much above average (159.7 cm).
There were also wild temperature swings last month, reaching above 20 C for the first time this year on Monday, March 30.
And on the complete opposite end, it got as cold as -19.3 C.
