An investigation is underway following a collision between two e-bikes in Kitchener that sent two to hospital.

Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) said it happened Friday evening around 9:30 p.m. on Manitou Drive between Wabanaki Drive and Sasada Drive.

Officers stated that a 22-year-old man from Kitchener was riding his e-bike in the wrong direction, heading eastbound on the westbound bike lanes.

He then collided with a 50-year-old man who was heading westbound on an e-bike.

It all comes as concerns are rising about the dangers and unsafe usage of e-bikes and e-scooters across Waterloo Region.

When emergency services arrived on scene, they were quick to close that section of Manitou Drive, needing to send both riders to an out-of-region hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

WRPS is now investigating the matter. Anyone who saw the crash or has dash-cam footage of it is asked to reach out at 519-570-9777, extension 8856.
