Police have raided a newly-opened FunGuyz location in Cambridge, seizing various forms of magic mushrooms and arresting a 48-year-old woman.

On Thursday, regional police executed a search warrant at Vape Guys, a business at 18 Ainslee St. South in downtown Galt.

In March, magic mushroom retailer FunGuyz made a post on its website alerting the public that it would be opening a “secret location” inside the Vape Guys store in Cambridge, hoping to continue growing the local psilocybin industry.

Part of that more “discreet” store location is likely linked to the fact that FunGuyz locations across Waterloo Region and Ontario have been raided by police repeatedly, including storefronts on King Street East in Preston, and at Victoria Street South and Park Street in Kitchener.

In Thursday’s raid, police seized psilocybin in various forms, including magic mushrooms, and cash. A 48-year-old woman from Wilmot was arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

“Businesses engaged in selling these products are operating unlawfully, and the substances they offer are neither regulated nor subject to standardized quality control measures,” said regional police in a press release.
