Four children were taken to hospital after a school bus crashed just outside of Woodstock, on Wednesday morning.

Just before 9 a.m. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to the crash on Old Stage Road, about 30 minutes outside of Waterloo Region.

OPP Sgt Ed Sanchuk said there were 40 students on board at the time, and the four children who were injured suffered minor injuries.

He said it was an especially hard call for some emergency workers and is very grateful for the bystanders who helped the children off the bus.

“As a parent, you made a difficult situation just a little bit easier,” said Sanchuk.

“I understand that some of our first responders, firefighters and paramedics may have had children on that bus and again as a father, your heart sinks when you see something like this first thing in the morning; you don’t anticipate something like this.”

The cause of the collision is still unclear, though OPP said the roadway was wet and slippery at the time.
