Environment Canada has officially lifted its Special Air Quality Statement that was in place through the long weekend across Waterloo Region.

It came as wildfires continue to rage in parts of British Columbia and the Prairies, with smoke billowing across the nation. Various regions across the country were under Special Air Quality Statements, including Waterloo.

Environment Canada expected the statement to remain in effect into Tuesday morning, initially saying there was a chance of it stretching into Wednesday..

Air quality and visibility due to wildfire smoke can fluctuate over short distances and can vary considerably from hour to hour, so it’s important to stay informed when you’re heading outdoors.

Those at high risk from outdoor air pollution include people aged 65 and older, pregnant people, infants and young children, people with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and people who work outdoors.
