A heads up for drivers on Highway 401 through Milton this weekend, a closure is on the way, likely to add some extra time to your drive.
A closure will be in place for both the eastbound and westbound lanes starting Saturday night at 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday morning between Guelph Line and Regional Road 25 as the old bridge at Tremaine Road will be demolished.
During the closure, drivers will be able to take a detour on Campbellville Road at Regional Road 25 on the westbound and at Guelph Line going eastbound.
Halton region says there will be signs in place as well as police and flag persons to help direct any traffic during that time.
The demolition is part of the final phase of an infrastructure upgrade in Halton Region, as a new bridge has been installed as part of a road realignment project between Steeles Avenue and Campbellville Road across the 401.
A new four lane bridge is currently open connecting Dublin Line and Tremaine Road, but is only open for two lanes. The old bridge has been closed to the public since Monday in anticipation for the demolition, with drivers being redirected to the new bridge
A new Highway 401 interchange connection is also in the works, and is expected to open by the end of 2026.
