Waterloo Regional Police Service is investigating a person-on-person robbery in Waterloo.

The event occurred on the night of May 2, around 10:40 p.m., when authorities responded to reports of a disturbance at the plaza between Northfield Drive East and Bridge Street West.

An investigation found that the victim had planned to meet an individual to exchange for an item that the victim had listed on a buy-and-sell website. At that exchange, the product was stolen before the suspect fled and met with other suspects waiting. The group then fled the scene with the stolen item.

An investigation into the incident will continue through the weekend.

Waterloo Regional Police Service would like to remind the public that there are three Buy and Sell Exchange Zones in Waterloo Region. These zones, which are located in the parking lot of WRPS facilities, aim to provide some additional peace of mind to those who are buying, selling, or trading property online. Members of the public are encouraged to utilize these Exchange Zones when meeting people to finalize online transactions.
