It took more than 66 minutes for the Kitchener Rangers to find the winner against the Saginaw Spirit on Tuesday night.

The Blueshirts grabbed a 3-0 lead in their first-round playoff series against the Saginaw Spirit after a 4-3 overtime win.

The Rangers’ offence was humming, managing 54 shots on the Spirit. Rangers forward Luca Romano found the winner in the extra frame.

Spirit goaltender Stepan Shurygin made 50 saves in a losing effort.

Game 4 will take place at the Dow Event Centre in Michigan on Thursday, where the Rangers will have a chance to book their ticket to round two and earn one week’s rest.

If the Rangers fail to win on Thursday, Game 5 will take place back at The Aud in Kitchener on Friday.
