The way you vote this upcoming municipal election could look a little different.

The City of Waterloo is preparing for at-home voting this October.

At a council meeting Monday afternoon, council asked staff to bring forward a bylaw to allow the change.

The hope is to better accommodate those who cannot make it to a polling station, either due to illness, injury or disability.

A report to council notes allowing residents to vote from home has worked well in other municipalities.

In Kitchener, drive-thru voting and home voting will also be piloted this year.

The city decided not to move ahead with online voting, however, due to cybersecurity concerns.

As the seven Waterloo Region municipalities prepare for the municipal election, constituents will start to get a better idea of who will be on the ballot at the start of May.

The final list of who residents can vote for will be finalized by the end of August.

Election day is October 26.
