From ribs to jazz, and even some Scottish pride, there are plenty of events heading into Waterloo Region throughout the weekend.

In Waterloo, there is plenty of swing and jive on the way through the Uptown Waterloo Jazz Festival.

It’s three days of free, local jazz music featuring everything from big bands and quartets, to big names like Monkey House and Travis Knights. It gets going Friday afternoon, beginning with music at 3:30 p.m. at 100 Regina St.

In Kitchener, a couple of events are on the go around the downtown area, including one that’s working to fill those empty stomachs.

The Kitchener Rib Fest & Craft Beer Show gets underway Friday at noon, right at Victoria Park.

It’ll include plenty of good barbecue bites throughout the weekend as well as live entertainment and a kids fun zone. It’s the 22-year anniversary of the event, all shining a particular light on local and Ontario-based vendors.

Not far away, at Carl Zehr Square, the Afrovibes Festival gets underway this weekend, described as “a vibrant celebration of African culture, art, music, and community.”

It will run through Saturday, July 19, with live music getting underway at 12:10 p.m. and running throughout the evening.

In Cambridge the Celtic spirit will be alive at the Cambridge Scottish Festival. It kicks off Friday evening and lasts through Saturday.

The event will be filled with activities such as highland dancing, the caber toss, with bagpipes set to fill the air in the city. The event will take place at Churchill Park, with free parking on site.

It’s an exciting weekend across Waterloo Region, with just a portion of the events slamming their way into town throughout the busy festival season this summer.
