Regional police say hold-and-secure measures are no longer in place at multiple schools across the region after threats of violence.

It was just before 10 a.m. on Tuesday when the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) and regional police shared word of measures being put in place at Alpine Public School in the south-west area of Kitchener, Ayr Public School and Baden Public School.

Both Alpine Public School and Ayr Public School are home to Kindergarten to Grade 6 students. Baden Public School is from Kindergarten to Grade 8.

WRPS spokesperson Cherri Greeno told 570 NewsRadio police received reports of violent threats towards the schools in Kitchener, Wilmot Township and North Dumfries Township.

“We received reports that an individual called into the schools threatening acts of violence,” said Greeno. “They are similar in nature, came in around the same time, and detectives are currently investigating.”

Providing an update just before 11 a.m., regional police confirmed that hold and secures had been lifted.

The investigation into the calls that prompted the measure is still ongoing, with more information set to be released when available.
