Not drinking and driving includes e-bikes, as a Guelph man has learned the hard way.

Police got a call just before midnight Friday night, sending officers out to a business on York Road where they found an e-bike with the key in the ignition, and a couple of six-packs of beer on the footrest.

While the officers were there, a man walked up to them with an empty been can in hand, and witnesses told the officers he was the driver of the bike.

Police said he seemed to be intoxicated, and they could smell alcohol on his breath.

Testing at a police station allegedly showed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

The 33-year-old from Guelph is now charged with impaired operation.
