A Guelph man is now facing a list of fraud-related charges after targeting seniors with a “bank investigator” scam in the Royal City.

According to Guelph police, it was last July when three separate seniors reported that they were contacted by individuals claiming to be representatives of their banks.

In each of those conversations, it’s alleged that the victims ended up providing their banking information, eventually handing over their debit and credit cards for destruction.

A man would then visit the victims’ homes, collect the cards, and use them to make thousands of dollars in withdrawals and purchases.

As recently as Saturday, Guelph police arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with these fraud incidents.

He has since been charged with two counts of fraud over $5,000, as well as seven counts of unauthorized use of a credit card.

The accused is set to appear in a Guelph court on July 3.
