Regional councillors are hoping a Grand River Transit pilot program will help get more people facing transportation barriers on the bus and ION.
This year’s budget included $25,000 for the program, which will see hundreds of discounted ride cards distributed to not-for-profit and community agencies.
The 2-ride fare card is primarily for riders facing transportation barriers, at a discounted rate of $3 — compared to $5.
“Reducing barriers to transit creates more options and opportunities for residents to stay connected,” said Regional Councillor Colleen James, who also chairs the Sustainability, Infrastructure and Development Committee.
Cards will be sold on a first come, first served based until that budgeted $25,000 is reached.
