A flood warning that was previously in place has been downgraded to a flood watch, according to the Grand River Conservation Authority, but that watch extends to the entirety of the grand River watershed.
Thunderstorms and heavy rain have contributed to approximately 70 mm of rainfall across the Grand River watershed. The GRCA is anticipating another low-pressure system to come through on Saturday with an additional 15 to 25 mm of rainfall.
With nowhere to go, water levels remain above normal.
The GRCA is warning that the forecasted rain could create significant runoff, which could cause water levels to rise even more. The ground conditions are saturated which could exacerbate the issue. There is a potential risk of flooding in areas typically prone to flooding.
The public is being asked to use extreme caution when near local waterways or rivers. Families are reminded to keep children and pets away from rivers while a flood watch is in effect.
The GRCA said the message will remain in place until 12 p.m. on Apr. 7.
