More details have come to light about the contract that prevented a Grand River Transit bus driver’s strike.

The three-year contract has now been ratified by both the union and the Region of Waterloo.

A statement from the region says the members of Unifor Local 4304 are getting a raise this year of 2.5 per cent, plus an extra $1 per hour.

And in both 2027 and 2028, they will get another 2 per cent raise.

Regional Chair Karen Redman says the contract is a testament to the positive working relationships between union membership and regional staff.

Unifor had already sent out a statement claiming the contract brought significant wage and benefit gains for the roughly 820 members of the local.

The union also mentioned expanded coverage for workers between the ages of 67 and 75, and stronger protections to keep new transit routes from being contracted out.
