An out-of-this-world playground is coming to a park in Cambridge.

Starting Monday, construction begins on a renewed space-themed playground in Churchill Park.

The plans for the new play space include a massive 26-foot-tall spaceship, slides, climbing bars and even a hammock.

The park on 200 Christopher Dr. has been a hot spot for families for years, and is now getting a fresher look.

“This towering rocket ship-inspired structure offers children a thrilling combination of speedy slides, gentle swaying, and challenging climbing opportunities. Rising high above the park, the see-through tower encourages interaction with friends while offering exhilarating views of the entire playground,” reads an information page on the project.

A social media post from the City of Cambridge warns park goers to watch out for construction crews, especially using caution at the busy splash pad during this latest heat wave.

Construction on the renewed space is expected to wrap up by the end of the year.
