The Cambridge Scottish Festival will go ahead this year after the city approved its bylaw exemption. (Cambridge Scottish Festival)
As the City of Cambridge conducts a review of its noise bylaw, council has granted dozens of exemptions for community events through the summer and early fall.
As it stands, the noise bylaw “prohibits any noise that is likely to disturb inhabitants of the city.”
The exemptions will allow the events to have amplified sound, that includes live music.
To qualify, the events had to be deemed “municipally significant” by contributing to the community be it socially, culturally or economically.
They won’t just free reign however. The sound will have to be shut off by 10 p.m. and the events will need to wind down by 11 p.m.
A total of 34 events were granted exemptions.
