A 10-year-old from St Marys had to be hospitalized after police say the child ate a gummy containing cannabis.

Monday afternoon, the youth reportedly picked up a candy off the floor while attending an after-school program inside the Pyramid Recreation Centre in St. Marys.

They got sick and eventually had to be taken to hospital, where it was confirmed THC was present in the 10-year-old’s blood.

They were treated, sent home, and the parents then reached out to Stratford Police.

Police warn that although cannabis is legal for adults to consume, many edibles look like popular candies and are extremely dangerous for children.

“It is important to handle and transport these items with care,” reads a release from police.

Police make no mention of charges in this most recent case.
