An arrest has been made after a reported break-and-enter in North Dumfries, and now police say additional charges have been laid.
It happened Saturday afternoon at around 4:50 p.m. when the Waterloo regional police Service (WRPS) was called about an in-progress incident at a business on Dumfries Road.
Officers arrived on scene and worked to investigate the area, finding the suspect in question just a short distance away.
Police said that suspect was found in possession of both bolt cutters and a “substantial length of copper cable.”
As a result, a 46-year-old Cambridge man was arrested.
Providing an update on Wednesday, police said that suspect’s vehicle was seized as part of their investigation and a search warrant had been completed.
That search warrant led police to the seizure of bolt cutters, copper wire, a prohibited knife and suspected methamphetamine, leading to additional charges.
That Cambridge man has since been charged with:
- Break and enter
- Possession of break-in tools
- Mischief under $5,000
- Possession of a prohibited weapon
- Possession of a controlled substance
- Breach of a release order
WRPS is reminding the public to keep an eye out for any suspicious or illegal activity, adding that if anything doesn’t seem right, to quickly give them a call.
