Emergency crews responded to a wildfire east of Halifax on Thursday afternoon.

Halifax Fire Deputy Chief Roy Hollett said firefighters received reports of smoke and flames over tree tops in the area of Jenking Boulevard in Lake Echo around 1:40 p.m.

Hollett said Halifax Fire and Emergency officials had used the term “under control” to describe the blaze, but stressed it’s up to the Department of Natural Resources to make official designations. He added that as of 4:30 p.m., HRFE was releasing some units from the scene.

No evacuations were needed and no structures were at risk, he said.

Jenking Boulevard remained closed to traffic as of 4:40 p.m.
