Nova Scotia Health says site preparations have begun on Roseway Hospital property to prepare for the installation of a new six-station dialysis unit.

According to the health authority, the project is one of three new dialysis units being built across the province to improve access to life-saving renal care in rural communities.

“The project will use an innovative construction approach known as Design for Manufacture and Assembly,” says Nova Scotia Health in a news release. “This method allows much of the unit to be built off-site before modular components are delivered and assembled on Roseway Hospital property, helping reduce construction timelines and minimize delays.”

The authority says all access to the hospital in Shelburne will continue as usual even as construction crews and equipment begin at the site.

They do ask patients and visitors to allow extra time when coming for an appointment in case of any construction-related traffic delays.

The new dialysis unit is expected to be operational in 2027.
