A person has died in a structure fire in Bridgewater.

According to Bridgewater police and fire investigators, the blaze broke out Wednesday on King Street and was contained to two residential buildings. Officials said a resident, who was earlier unaccounted for, had been located dead in the building.

Police on social media say more details will be released by investigators pending notification of next of kin.

Bridgewater police said a number of street closures had been put in place as the scene had been severely damaged, saying there were structural risks.

Officials said late Wednesday night that the fire had not been fully extinguished and that hot spots and smoke were still noticeable.

An investigation was expected to follow once the area is deemed safe.
