One man is facing a charge of impaired operation causing death after a head-on collision in South Ohio, N.S.

Yarmouth RCMP, EHS and fire services responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Hardscratch Road near Highway 340 on Friday.

Officers say the initial investigation indicated that a GMC Sierra was travelling north on Hardscratch Road when it collided with a Ford Ranger travelling south. The Ranger ended up in the ditch.

The driver and lone occupant of the Ranger, an 82-year old man from Arcadia, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and lone occupant of the Sierra, a 43-year-old man from Yarmouth, was arrested with impaired driving causing death.

A RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene and the road was closed for several hours. It has since reopened.

The investigation is ongoing.
