The Nova Scotia Community College says a $15 million shortfall in its 2026-27 budget will result in the elimination of 91 positions.
In a release, the provincial institution cited rising costs and declining international tuition revenue as one of the reasons for the cuts.
It also notes that changes were necessary after the Nova Scotia government axed $9.4 million from NSCC’s provincial operating grant in its latest fiscal shuffle in February.
NSCC says it expects 50 management, 15 operational support, and 26 professional support staff to be affected.
According to NSCC, employees affected by the changes have been informed and provided with transition support. Those within the NSGEU or the Atlantic Academic Union will be presented with options available under collective agreements.
No faculty positions have been impacted, says the school.
“By prioritizing academic and student success, and efficiency, we have designed a leaner and more focused organizational structure and administration that still allows us to maintain our pan-provincial, College footprint and academic offerings,” says Stacey Baillie, acting vice-president, college services and strategy, in a statement.
The college says it will address the cuts through vacancies, term endings and voluntary exits.
