The BIO International Convention, the largest biotechnology conference in the world, runs next week from June 22 to 25 — and Nova Scotia’s life sciences and biotech sectors will have a prominent presence.
The event takes place in San Diego, Calif., where seven Nova Scotia-based companies will be featured, and Premier Tim Houston will be in attendance.
“Through better technology and trials, we can deliver faster, better healthcare, while creating good job opportunities in our province,” said Premier Houston in a news release.
The premier will also participate in a roundtable discussion with other representatives from Atlantic Canada and speak to an international audience about the province’s advancements in the life sciences sector. A news release said that by showcasing Nova Scotia’s strengths, they can look into potential partnerships that will further these sectors and underscore the importance of life sciences in “promoting health outcomes and economic growth.”
The release said the province’s life sciences sector has advanced significantly since last year’s BIO conference, including removing barriers for Nova Scotians to participate in medical research that may lead to positive discoveries. In 2025, the province also made investments in Life Sciences Nova Scotia to aid companies in making, testing and selling their products.
“Nova Scotia has seen success using technology to connect patient records, improving diagnosis, and innovating in medical research. We can take that same success to continue to improve patient care and to pursue new economic opportunities,” said Premier Houston.
This conference attracts 20,000 industry leaders from around the world and runs annually.
