The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) says Limpy the Bear has been safely re-located to Shubenacadie.

Limpy had become a familiar presence in Hammond Plains over the last 15 plus years. While he has never showed any signs of aggression, DNR staff say he has been getting too close to humans.

“This step is being taken for his safety and yours,” officials said in a social media post.

The post drew concerns from the community who expressed their love for Limpy and concern for his well-being.

Limpy was humanly trapped and transported approximately 60 km north to Shubenacadie for medical assessment, DNR said. He is expected to live out his days there in “comfort and care”.

Limpy got his name after he was hit by a car over 10 years ago, injuring his front paw.
