A man appeared in court after robbing a store in Colchester County using a farm implement.

Around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Truro Police say officers were called to a Proxi convenience store after being alerted by the gas station’s panic alarm.

Arriving at the store, located on Walker Street, responding officers say they learned a man had made off with cigarettes after holding up the store using a pitchfork.

In a post on social media, Truro Police say the area was contained as officers searched for the accused and soon found him hiding behind an apartment building.

The stolen items were recovered, and a 38-year-old man with no fixed address was taken into custody.

Few other details were provided but the suspect was expected to appear in Truro Provincial Court on Wednesday to face charges for the robbery attempt.
