Man facing several charges following hours-long standoff on rooftop

A man was arrested in Lower Sackville on Tuesday evening after a dramatic stand-off with police and a crisis negotiator.

RCMP say officers were called to the area of Brecken Ridge Lane around 11:15 p.m., after a woman reported she had been assaulted by a man with a damaged truck.

A second call came moments later to 9-1-1 but the connection was quickly cut off.

Responding officers allege a man assaulted the woman, crashed his truck and caused damaged to a home before fleeing the scene with a baseball bat and possibly a knife.

With the aid of a police dog and a drone, the suspect was located on the roof of a building. Officers brought in crisis negotiators and the RCMP Emergency Response Team.

Mounties say EHS and fire services were placed on standby.

After several hours, the man was safely arrested and taken into custody.

The 26-year old man from Lower Sackville is now facing a slew of charges including assault, assault with a weapon, uttering threats, mischief under $5,000, and resisting arrest,
