Man faces nearly two-dozen charges after fleeing police in Cape Breton

Cape Breton Regional Police say they have arrested a 23-year-old man for violations of his court-ordered conditions of release.

In a post on social media released on Monday, police say they initially responded to reports of tampering with a monitoring device associated to the man on May 7 at a residence.

After, he did not present himself at the address as required, officers determined he was in breach of several conditions of his release order, associated with a total of 42 various charges, pending before the courts.

On May 24, during a vehicle stop an attempt to arrest him was thwarted after he fled and damaged a police vehicle as well as another vehicle speeding away.

He was next found May 29 at a residence in Membertou, where he attempted to run but was caught by officers and taken into custody.

Officers also seized a firearm, as well as cocaine and over $1,000 cash.

The suspect is now facing a total of 21 charges that range from flight from police to assault with a weapon and possession for the purpose of trafficking in cocaine.

He is remanded to the Cape Breton Correctional Centre.
