Another closure on the MacKay Bridge is scheduled for this weekend, although it sounds like the work will be worth the wait for many drivers.

Halifax Harbour Bridges(HHB) says the MacKay will be closed to all traffic starting Friday night at 8 p.m. until Monday morning at 5:30 a.m.

HHB says the closure will allow crews to complete essential maintenance and remove cable inspection platforms.

The commission also says that when the bridge reopens Monday morning, the Princess Margaret Boulevard ramps will once again be accessible to commuters.

The ramps have been closed since late May so new ones could be built.

Also on Monday, the MacKay’s speed limit will be set to 70 km/h, and HHB says enforcement measures will be in effect.

Drivers will have the option to use the Macdonald Bridge this weekend as an alternative. However, HHB is reminding drivers that vehicles over 3,200 kilograms, except for buses, are not allowed on the Macdonald.
