For a second day in a row, several areas outside of Halifax Regional Municipality are under a heat warning.
Environment Canada issued the alert for regions in the western half of mainland Nova Scotia, stretching from Digby north into Cumberland and Colchester counties, as well as for the western half of Cape Breton.
The national forecaster says some areas in that zone will see temperatures reaching 29 C, but with the humidity factored in, it will feel more like 37 C.
For HRM, 95.7 weather specialist Allister Aalders says the city will be a little cooler, but there is still a lot of humidity in the air.
“Highs in the city will be near 25 C with humidex values into the low 30s, but of course relief to be found right along the coast, and that will be the case closer to 17 C this afternoon thanks to that onshore wind,” said Aalders.
Environment Canada is reminding people to drink water and watch for early signs of heat exhaustion in themselves and others. Symptoms may include headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst, dark urine and intense fatigue.
The good news is that some relief is on the way, with daytime highs on Friday expected to cool down to the mid-20s.
“With a cold front passing through on Friday the dry air mass will bring nicer weather for the weekend as high pressure settles in with lots of sunshine for Saturday and a mix of sun and cloud for Sunday,” said Aalders.
