Four more Nova Scotia long term care homes will be hitting the picket line as they have issued official strike notice.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees, which represents workers at Grand View Manor, Magnolia Continuing Care Centre, Shiretown and Ivey’s Terrace Nursing Homes, and Maple Hill Manor, said it has issued a 48-hour notice to strike.
CUPE said this means if government doesn’t return to the bargaining table, they will hit the picket line Thursday and Friday.
“Government has been silent since this started except for the soundbites that Minster Adams keeps repeating in the media,” said CUPE long term and community care committee chair Christa Sweeney. “We’ve been ready and willing to continue bargaining since we reached impasse on March 24, but they haven’t called us back to the table.”
This comes after 25 long term care homes have already joined the picket line, bringing the number of workers on strike to 2,400.
CUPE said if these four homes also join, that would bring the number of workers to 3,000.
