A firefighter was taken to hospital with minor injuries after a fire broke out at a strip mall in Bedford.

Brad Connors with Halifax Regional Fire says the blaze began at the newly opened JetLegend restaurant. He says the restaurant was heavily damaged, but neighbouring businesses were not.

Connors says the firefighter taken to hospital has since been released.

In a social media post on Sunday, Halifax Professional Fire Fighters (HPFF) said crews responded to a fire alarm in the area shortly after 8:30 a.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered an active fire within a commercial unit at a strip mall, upgrading the incident to a structure fire.

The incident escalated to the equivalent of above a third alarm in both personnel and apparatus, according to HPFF.
