A woman attacked in her northeast Calgary home earlier this week has died from her injuries, and police now confirm the accused is her teenage grandson.

Emergency crews were called to a residence in the community of Pineridge around 7 p.m. on Sunday for reports of an altercation.

They arrived to find a woman in her 50s in medical distress. She was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition.

Calgary police said Thursday that the victim succumbed to her injuries in the hospital.

A 15‑year‑old boy, now identified as the woman’s grandson, was arrested at the scene and initially charged with aggravated assault and mischief to property under $5,000. Police say charges are expected to be upgraded.

The accused cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Because the case is domestic in nature and involves a youth offender, the victim’s name will not be released.

Anyone with additional information is urged to contact police at 403‑266‑1234 or submit anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers.
