Calgary police are continuing their investigation after two people were found fatally injured inside a northeast Calgary home early Wednesday, an incident investigators say is not linked to the recent wave of extortion attempts targeting the city’s South Asian community.

Officers were called to the northeast neighbourhood around 12:41 a.m. on Wednesday for reports of a disturbance.

When they arrived, they discovered two individuals suffering from severe injuries. One died at the scene despite emergency efforts, while the second was pronounced dead later in hospital.

Police confirmed shortly after the incident that they were not searching for any suspects.

Autopsies were completed on Thursday, and while the causes of death have been established, investigators say the manner of death remains under review. No further details are being released as the Homicide Unit continues its work.

“We understand that the recent events, including the deaths of two people, have been greatly distressing to the community, causing fear and frustration,” police said in a release.

The reassurance comes amid a rise in extortion attempts and related shootings in Calgary. Police say at least 13 extortion attempts have been reported since July, with multiple shootings tied to the trend over the past year, including one earlier this month in the same area of Redstone.

Investigators say based on current evidence, there is no “tangible connection” between the Redstone deaths and the extortion cases.
