Severe thunderstorm warning ends for Calgary after hail hits parts of city

A severe thunderstorm warning has ended for Calgary after storms rolled through the city on Thursday afternoon bringing hail and heavy rain to some parts.

Environment Canada (ECCC) issued the warning around 3:45 p.m. as meteorologists tracked severe storms that developed over the foothills and slowly crossed over the city.

The weather agency said the storms were likely to produce dime-sized hail and heavy rainfall.

According to social media posts, both the south and north ends of the city saw hail in the late afternoon.

Calgary remains under a severe thunderstorm watch as of late afternoon Thursday

Showers are expected to end overnight and then begin again Friday morning. Environment Canada says there will another risk of severe thunderstorms late Friday afternoon.

The daytime high for Friday is 17 C.
