One person is dead following a crash between a semi and a pickup truck east of Calgary on Monday night.

RCMP say the collision happened around 10 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 564 and Highway 9, east of the village of Delacour.

Mounties say a semi was travelling southbound on Highway 9 towards the intersection when a Ford F-250 was travelling eastbound and either failed to stop at a stop sign, or failed to “proceed safely from the stop sign.”

The driver of the Ford, a 28-year-old man from Beiseker, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi-truck was not hurt.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.

The intersection of Highway 564 and Highway 9 was closed overnight and reopened just after 6 a.m. Tuesday morning.
