Health inspectors have shut down a Dairy Queen in southeast Calgary due to a mouse infestation.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) says extensive mouse activity was found at the Dairy Queen/Orange Julius location on Fairmount Drive SE, just south of Southland Drive.

Inspectors reported mice droppings beneath equipment and throughout the storage and service areas. They said a nest was also found behind an ice cream machine.

The business had no pest control contract or records, according to AHS. Inspectors also noted multiple gaps and holes in the building that could allow rodents to enter or hide.

AHS has ordered the owners to shut down immediately, move equipment to assess the full infestation, clean and disinfect all contaminated areas, hire a licensed pest control company, keep written pest‑control documentation, and repair all structural deficiencies.

The restaurant must remain closed until all work is completed and approved by a health officer, and additional repairs may be required.
