Canadian border services personnel say 70 bricks of suspected cocaine were found in a commercial truck hauling produce to Calgary in February.
On Feb. 15, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) agents stopped a truck at the Coutts border crossing in southern Alberta.
The produce on the truck was declared, but upon inspection, officers found nearly 87 kilograms of drugs hidden inside three suitcases.
Agents arrested the driver who was transferred to the custody of RCMP.
Information on charges hasn’t been provided.
This comes after three separate seizures in November and December, where officers at Coutts seized more than 1,000 kilograms of drugs.
Last year, border officers in Alberta undertook 1,292 drug seizures, including more than 1,000 kilograms of cocaine, and 279 kilograms of methamphetamine.
