An Edmonton truck driver is facing charges after a huge cocaine bust at Alberta’s border with the United States on Monday.

Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers made the discovery at the Coutts crossing when they were searching a commercial truck that was trying to enter Canada, according to the RCMP.

Mounties say officers found a duffle bag full of 67 kilograms of cocaine.

The driver was taken into custody.

Following a joint investigation between police and Alberta border officials, 49-year-old Edmonton resident Trieu Thanh Ngoc Le is facing several drug and smuggling charges.

“This seizure at the Coutts port of entry demonstrates the effectiveness of (our) detection capabilities and the important role our officers play to keep our communities safe,” says the CBSA’s Janalee Bell-Boychuk in a statement.

The accused appeared in a Lethbridge courtroom on Thursday.
