Mounties have charged a man with first-degree murder in the death of a young man east of Calgary more than five years ago.
Chestermere RCMP say 18-year-old Sahlil Grewal died in hospital on April 6, 2020, following an incident three days earlier.
An investigation over the course of the last five years found a suspect gave cough syrup laced with a fatal dose of fentanyl to Grewal, which he consumed.
The suspect also gave the same substance to a 25-year-old Calgary resident, who did not consume it and was unharmed.
RCMP have charged 23-year-old Conrich resident Mohit Sandhu with first-degree murder and attempted murder. Sandhu is currently in custody on another matter.
The accused is scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing next week.
