Calgary police have responded to four shootings over three days, all taking place since National Day Against Gun Violence on Friday.
Officers reported the most recent one at around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday in the 4000 block of 104 Avenue NE. However, no information was provided, only that no injuries were reported and an investigation is ongoing.
The first shooting reported happened on the commemorative day against gun violence on Friday at around 5 a.m., when a man was found with gunshot wounds after seeking help at a home in southeast Calgary.
Officers say he was found at a home on the 1200 block of 44 Street SE, across from Forest Lawn High School, seeking help.
They believe he was shot inside a home on the 1400 block of 44 Street. Police say the victim was seen leaving the home with a man and a woman, who fled before police arrival.
The second happened that evening, with police finding two men shot at a southwest Calgary apartment building on the Beltline late Friday.
They responded to reports of a shooting on the 1300 block of 14 Avenue SW just before 11 p.m.
When they arrived, a man was found with gunshot wounds. Initially in critical condition, they say he was upgraded to stable condition with life-altering injuries.
Then, another man with gunshot wounds was also noted to have been at the same location. According to witnesses, police believe the second victim was taken to hospital after calling for help.
The driver was taken into custody, while the second victim was discovered in hospital in stable condition with life-altering injuries.
“At this time, no one is in custody in connection with this incident. There is no active risk to the public,” police say.
Meanwhile, the last incident involved a man found with a gunshot wound in his leg under a bridge in downtown Calgary on Saturday.
Calgary police responded to calls of a shooting on the 400 block of 5 Avenue SE at around 2:40 a.m.
They found the man under a bridge, who was then rushed to Foothills Hospital with minor injuries.
Investigators believe the man was approached by two unknown men who wanted his belongings. Escalating to a fight, the victim was then shot before the two men fled the scene.
An investigation is ongoing.
National Day Against Gun Violence began in 2023, with it being commemorated on the first Friday of June as a day of remembrance for victims of violence in Canada, and a time to pay tribute to families and loved ones of victims.
Acting Staff Sergeant Corey Der says it’s concerning to see firearm-related incidents continue to happen across the city, “causing real harm and fear in our communities.”
“We remain committed to addressing gun violence and rely on the public to continue reporting information that helps keep everyone safe,” he said in a press release.
Calgary was already above the average number of shootings in the city by March 10, with 23 shootings reported — an increase over the city’s five-year average of 15 over that period of time, according to a report from the police commission. Thirty-nine per cent of those shootings have been tied to extortion.
As of Sunday, there have been 39 shootings in the city, according to police. Calgary saw 54 shootings in 2025.
Officers say they handle an average of nine calls involving real or imitation firearms — whether suspected, discovered or confirmed — every day. Over 80 per cent of those calls are reported by members of the public.
Police ask anyone with information about these incidents to call them at 403-266-1234 or leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
