At least one vehicle was crunched by a falling tree during a Sunday night storm in Calgary.

The thunderstorm that mostly impacted the north end of the city brought heavy rain, hail, and strong winds, leaving downed trees and hail damage.

CityNews spoke with one Calgary homeowner who had a tree come down onto her home Sunday night.

“It could have been worse, I think I was in a bit of shock,” says Vivian, who lives in a home just off of 32 Ave NW.

Another resident who lives just down the street recalls the violent wind and hail that hit her property.

“Good size hail, maybe less than a loonie, but pounding the window,” she says. “It was very short-lived. Maybe 10 minutes.”

Environment Canada says the largest hail reported to them was around golf ball-sized.

The City of Calgary was under a rainfall warning for most of Monday as steady rain hit the city. The warning was lifted in the evening.

ECCC says between 50 to 80 millimetres was expected.

The weather agency warned that localized flooding in low-lying areas was a possibility.
