Calgary police continue to investigate a crash on northbound Stoney Trail in the city’s northwest Thursday evening that claimed the life of a 35-year-old motorcyclist.
Police say the crash happened just before 6 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Stoney Trail NW near Sarcee Trail NW.
Investigators believe a white 2023 GMC Sierra pickup truck with a utility trailer attached was driving east on Stoney Trail NW in the middle lane.
At the same time, a red 2019 Ducati 959 Panigale motorcycle was travelling east in the far left lane on Stoney Trail NW.
As the truck and motorcycle approached Sarcee Trail NW, traffic has slowed, police say. The GMC braked and changed lanes to the left, hitting the motorcycle.
The motorcycle and rider were knocked down, coming to a rest near the guardrails in the centre median, police say.
According to police, the rider was left with serious, life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital where he died.
The driver of the truck stayed at the scene and wasn’t hurt.
Speed, alcohol, and drugs aren’t considered to be factors in this incident.
