Calgary police say a suspect linked to a bank-fraud scheme reported on Wednesday has been arrested.
Investigators say the scam began around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, when a woman received a phone call that appeared on her caller ID as the Bank of Montreal (BMO).
Police say the caller had detailed personal information, including the victim’s full name, address and date of birth, then persuaded her to reveal her banking PIN, cut up her cards and wait for a courier to retrieve them.
After an individual in an SUV arrived to collect the cards, BMO alerted her about a $12,500 transaction at a casino in the southeast.
Police announced the arrest on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the investigation is ongoing.
