Three schools in northwest Calgary were put under lockdown Thursday morning due to reports of a suspicious person.

Police say they were notified around 11 a.m. that a suspicious individual was spotted in the area of Northmount Drive and Collingwood Place NW.

Police tell CityNews the suspect was carrying an airsoft gun, but did not point or shoot it.

Officers have since searched the area, identified a suspect, and taken him into custody.

No injuries were reported and all students remained safe during the incident.

As a precaution, lockdowns were initiated for St. Margaret School at 3320 Carol Dr NW, St. Francis High School at 877 Northmount Drive NW, and Collingwood School at 3826 Collingwood Drive NW. The lockdowns were lifted before 12:45 p.m.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
